This is our neighborhood taqueria. I think they also get business from the London Nelson Community Center across the street, and beach traffic down Laurel Street. Prices have gone up, but that's true everywhere. I usually get the veggie burrito whenever I get a craving for Mexican food. I heard they're relatives of the owners of Tacos Moreno, which was the first favorite taqueria in Santa Cruz, but now we have plenty to choose from.

We are from Southern California visiting beautiful Santa Cruz so we've had our fair share of Mexican food and we LOVE it. I have to say I was blown away by how much flavor De La Hacienda puts in their food. The al pastor quesadilla was off the charts. The green salsa was friendly with a bit of tang and just enough heat. I was surprised by the beans in my beef taco. That was new but, hey, why not? I could have order just one and not two. The chili verde burrito had so much meat in it. And the price was such a good value -- Two tacos, quesadilla, nachos, bean burrito and chili verde burrito. This all came to under $50! That would never happen where we are from. So great!

Sounding a little like Clint here, but "i know what you're thinking...."how in the heck can this little place be that good? Well here's the low down: a lot of people don't know what good Mex food is - they have nothing to compare what they're eating, so you read reviews that say, " no flavor, too spicy, to hot, not hot enough... So they could end up with the Gringo version and not even know it and with certain areas having lots of taquerias it's tough to sort out. Yelp is a good place to start. With De La Hacienda you look arounds at who is ordering, Who is eating and you get a sense of what kind of food is coming out of the kitchen-- beautiful looking, tasting food that lives up,to its reputation. I saw workers wearing hard hats, policemen, landscapers, a lot mostly Hispanic and a fair amount of people like me-- looking like non of the above. The staff is customer friendly. Service is quick and food quality very good. Had chili verde with the usual sides, my grandson a giant burrito half of which he took home. Yup,that big. All reasonably priced for the delivered plates. No canned anything, no fake sauces, the meat in my verde was roughly 1" cube cut pork.tender and seasoned well. The Rice was freshly made, ditto the refried beans. It's a small restaurant that put out big flavor with a super friendly staff. Andele!,

Straight up the fastest food service I've ever experienced. They didn't have shrimp so I asked for sautéed veggies and carnitas a common thing I order at Mexican restaurants but the guy taking my order seemed a little impatient and confused and irritated so I ended up just ordering a side of chicken with rice and beans. I know everyone has rough days and the service industry is hard so although I didn't get what I wanted The food was still very good and it came so fast like we literally ordered sat down and the food was coming it was impressive lol fresh and warm ingredients my son got the tacos never seen tacos like that very unique and yummy
